Jody began playing drums for his dad's band at the age of eight and comes by his mixture of traditional Western swing and true country music quite naturally: The West Texas Cowboys was a band started by his father Hoyle Nix, during the 1940's and 50's when Hoyle and Bob Wills developed Texas Swing music famous for it's "twin fiddle" styling. After the death of his father, Jody moved from playing drums in the band to lead fiddle player. Since then he has recorded seven albums and was a Country Music Association nominee for "Album of the Year" in 1994. His natural talents helped form his new band, the Texas Cowboys, based out of Big Spring, Texas. The group that includes Ken Kelly, Mark Douglas, Bob Kelly and Robert Weeks is dazzling audiences across the country with their great Western Swing dance music and high energy stage shows. They perform at the Wild Horse Saloon during the Durango Cowboy Gathering on Friday October 3rd and Saturday October 5th (see schedule).
